There are ways to protect your writings, I put copyright notices at the bottom of each of my "Rexpennae" posts. You could easily control who can read the blog you post them to, you can prevent searchengines form finding it, or even people who look at your profile.
Aside from Blogger you can register you work with the national copyright office, I've never done that so I don't know how. I don't worry about people stealing my work, because of the copyright laws of the '70s, or somewhere around there. They state that the moment you put your idea down on paper it is legally yours and protected content. But you need to be able to prove that you wrote it first. The timestamp on Blogger should be sufficient, unless they change it. But the really effective tool that I've used is to print your story out when it's done, or put it on a disk, and mail it to yourself by way of the USPS, the postmark will be more than suficient, so long as you DO NOT OPEN THE LETTER, lock it away in a safe so that you can sue plagerists with your trump evidence of first thought, government sealed.
